How does Reiki benefit your horse?
Reiki (pronounced ray-key or ray-kee)

Equine Reiki helps balance your horse physically, mentally, emotionally, and even spiritually. Working with the chakras to balance their natural energy, Reiki brings clarity, peace and relaxation and can help reduce or eliminate pain. Because Reiki is an energy balancing modality / therapy, it will never harm your horse.

·  Reiki can help release and heal your horses' emotions, especially if your horse has emotional issues due to a traumatic situation such as neglect, an abusive past, or a riding accident. (Reiki is often used to help animals who have come from rescues.)
·  For behavioral issues such as nervousness or hyperactivity, Reiki can help your horse relax and reduce their stress and anxiety.
·  If your horse is sick or injured, Reiki can help your horse self-heal more quickly.
·  Reiki can help bring comfort and be a great compliment to conventional treatment if your horse is facing an illness.

What does your horse feel during Reiki?

·  First, I ask permission from your horse to perform Reiki for their greater good and benefit. I let your horse know that they should only take the amount of Reiki that they want.
·  Reiki is given to your horse by chanelling the energy flow through  my hands. The session may start out with my hands at my side or slightly out in front. This allows your horse to see and feel my intent. Your horse will indicate his/her comfort level at this point.
· Hands can also be placed directly on your horse's body but if your horse is not comfortable with that, Reiki can be given with the hands an inch or so from the body or at a distance. Some horses prefer to start out at a distance, such as outside a stall or across the paddock. Most times, in a very short period, the horse will see that no harm is intended and actually invite me to come closer. The energy will still flow from my hands to where it is needed. *The practitioner is not doing the healing, but the Reiki flowing through them is.* A practitioner is simply a channel for this healing energy.
·  Some horses will just stand still during the Reiki session. However, most will position their bodies showing me exactly where they want my hands to be (for example: their head, side, or back). This can be done from a distance by your horse turning the area he/she wishes to focus on toward me.

What are some signs that Reiki is working on your horse?

During the session you may notice the horse releasing energy. These signs include licking and chewing, twitching muscles, sighing, yawning or pawing the ground. Often you will also notice their eyes soften, their lips droop and it is quite common for them to actually fall asleep! As the energy is being moved thoroughout their body, you may hear grumbling in their stomach and flatulence may occur.

A Reiki session for horses does not diagnose any medical problems, but helps to rebalance your horse’s energy. If you require a medical diagnosis, please consult with your vet.
